FLOOD PREVENTION
All About Us
With the increasingly unpredictable and often harsh British weather, MBE Group offers comprehensive flood prevention services to protect your property and facilities from water damage. Our expert team assesses vulnerable areas and designs tailored solutions, such as efficient drainage systems, water diversion channels, and flood barriers, to keep your spaces dry and safe. We use durable, high-quality materials to ensure long-lasting protection against heavy rains and flooding, allowing you to maintain a functional and secure environment year-round, regardless of the weather.
Bank Clearance / Reinforcement
Ditch bank reinforcement is a crucial measure to prevent erosion, manage water flow, and protect surrounding land from flooding. Our team specializes in reinforcing ditch banks with durable materials that stabilize the soil and strengthen the bank structure, effectively reducing the risk of collapse and water overflow. By reinforcing ditch banks, we enhance their capacity to manage water, even in heavy rain, while preserving the surrounding landscape. This proactive solution ensures reliable drainage and long-lasting protection against erosion, keeping your property secure and functional year-round.
1. Survey
To begin, our team conducts a thorough survey of the ditch banks and assesses the water flow to develop the most effective reinforcement plan. We also perform soil testing to determine the ideal approach for strengthening the banks. For heavy clay soil, we may widen the ditch and repurpose the clay to build up and enlarge the bank, utilising the soil’s natural density for added stability. If the soil is softer, we might excavate the bank and reinforce it with aggregate, providing a more durable and erosion-resistant structure. This tailored approach ensures that the banks are fortified according to the specific conditions of your land, maximising the effectiveness of the water management system.
2. Clearance
We start by thoroughly clearing the ditches, removing all vegetation and debris to ensure a clean and open pathway for water flow. Once cleared, we proceed to open up or reshape the banks, strategically optimising their structure to improve water movement and drainage efficiency. This process not only enhances the ditch’s capacity to manage water but also helps prevent future blockages and flooding, ensuring your property remains protected and well-drained.
2. Build
After clearing the ditches, we will assess the soil type to determine the most effective reinforcement approach. If there is clay soil present, we’ll repurpose it to build the banks higher, leveraging its density for added stability and durability. Alternatively, if the soil is softer, we’ll install aggregate along the banks to ensure they are solid, raised, and resilient against erosion. This tailored approach ensures robust bank reinforcement, enhancing the ditch's ability to manage water flow and protect the surrounding land from flooding.

Soakaway Drainage
If you’re dealing with water buildup in areas without nearby outlets, such as rivers or streams, a soakaway system can be an excellent solution. Soakaways create a designated area where excess water can drain and gradually disperse back into the ground, helping to prevent pooling and reduce flood risks. By allowing water to infiltrate naturally, a soakaway provides a sustainable, low-maintenance solution for managing water on your property, keeping your land dry and usable even in wet conditions.
Land Drain
Land drains are an effective solution for managing excess water in areas like yards, fields, and parking zones. These drains are installed underground to channel water from saturated ground into an external source, such as a drain, river, or soakaway. The installation process begins by digging a trench approximately one meter deep. A layer of geotextile fabric is placed within the trench to prevent soil from clogging the drainage system. Next, an initial 200mm layer of aggregate is laid on top of the geotextile to support drainage, followed by a perforated pipe placed along the center of the trench to facilitate water movement. The trench is then filled with more aggregate, leaving around 200mm below the surface. Finally, the geotextile fabric is wrapped over the top to keep the system secure, and the remaining space is backfilled with soil to restore the surface. This structured setup ensures efficient water flow, reducing surface flooding and keeping the ground dry and stable.

Banks / Reinforcement
If you have a river or stream running through your yard with low banks, our team can help by raising and reinforcing the banks to reduce the risk of flooding.
Ditches
Ditches play a vital role in effective water management, directing excess water away from your property. If your ditches are full or obstructed, our team can assist by clearing, deepening, and widening them to restore optimal flow.
Drainage
Installing land drains, drainage pipes, and twinwall pipework is an effective solution for managing water levels on your property. These drainage systems work together to direct excess water away from vulnerable areas, preventing pooling and reducing soil erosion.
